Northwestern part of Bangladesh is enriched with the countless archaeological treasures, center of the ancient civilizations, transnational hub of different religions like Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam from 300BC to Mughal periods. Mahasthangarh was the capital of the earliest classical period kingdom called “Pundravardhana”. Even though Bangladesh is one of the smallest country in the world, it is filled with countless architectural treasures. Kantajew temple in Dinajpour is one of the spectacular archaeological site of late-medieval period. Ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at the Paharpur built around 7th century is biggest Buddhist Monastery at the time. It was built by the Dharmapal Virramshila, the king of Varendri-Magadha. At the base of the Monastery, there are sixty stone sculptures that testify to the belief system of Hinduism. The outside walls are beautifully crafted with ornamental terracotta. Shompuri Vihara is the one of the most significant pre-Islamic architecture in the Bangladesh and reveals the significance of the cultural and religious life of this great Vihara.
The fame of Bengal Silk is long known by the world. It was popularly known as the ‘Ganges Silk’ by the Italians since 13th Century. Bangladesh has inherited this skill of silk Sari due to its geographical proximity to China. Bengal silk is the finest mulberry silk that represents the sophistication since medieval period.
The holy Ganges and mighty Brahmaputra rivers are situated respectively south western and eastern boarder of this region. This flat scenic landscape is the foremost source of agricultural products of this country.
Highlights
Day 01: You will be picked up from your hotel in Dhaka around 6:30AM and drive to Dinajpur. It takes 7-8 hours drive. We shall have light lunch on the way and couple of stops for tea and snacks. After reaching Dianajpur, check in to hotel. If time permits, we might visit Rajbari (old Landlord house) and later walk around the in the town. Dinner and over night at Dinajpur Parjatan Motel.
Day 02: Very Early in the morning, we shall drive to Kantajee temple and visit the spectacular site for half an hour and drive towards Paharpur Buddhist Monastery. On the way, we shall have light breakfast and lunch. After visiting this UNESCO world heritage site we shall proceed to Rajshahi. Check in to the hotel and later will take a short walk/boat ride in the river Ganges. In the evening you might walk around the city, dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 03: After breakfast check out and visit Rajshahi Silk Factory to learn about the whole process and later visit the Varendra Research Museum (enriched with huge archaeological collections) and drive to Puthia Rajbari to discover four stunning Hindu temples. Later drive Bogura and Check into the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 04: After a late breakfast, drive to Mahasthangarh and Gokul Medh for couple of hours. Later drive back to Dhaka. On the way, we might stop at traditional Tangail Saari weaving village. Lunch will be at a convenient place and you shall reach Dhaka in the late afternoon around 6:30pm. End of archaeological discovery!
